In 2021, his latest album It is What It Is won the Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album, his first Grammy to be won as a solo artist. Besides Grammys, Thundercat has also won two Libera Awards. Despite gaining worldwide prominence, he has remained an independent artist and releases music through Los Angeles based record label, Brainfeeder.
